About Jeffrey’s Bay

Jeffrey’s Bay is located in the Eastern Cape, just 75km (46 miles) south-west of Port Elizabeth. Relaxed and redolent of a ‘Hang-Ten’ advert, Jeffrey’s Bay is a much sought after surfing hotspot at the top of the Garden Route.  It is rated as one of the 10 best places in the world to catch the perfect wave. The longest, most perfect righthand point-break on the planet, it consists of no less than 10 different sections including Kitchen Windows, Magnatubes, Boneyards, Supertubes, Impossibles, Salad Bowls, Coins, Tubes, The Point  and finally Albatross. The bustling town is bordered on both sides by a nature reserve and rivers – the Kabeljous and Seekoei estuaries/lagoons host numerous water birds and are ideal for water sports like canoeing, boardsailing, kitesurfing and fishing. There is also the Kabeljous Nature Reserve. It is a walk-about reserve, well known to anglers for a diverse number of fish. J-Bay is also famous for great seafood and calamari (white gold). There are several excellent restaurants and a number of micro-breweries.  In addition to all the well-known surf shops, there is also a thriving local craft industry. Fountains Mall, just off the N2, hosts an excellent variety of well-known chain stores including Pick ‘n Pay and Woolworths.  Nearer to town, Equinox Mall hosts Checkers and Food Lover’s.  On Da Gama Road in Wavecrest, there is a strip mall with a Super Spar, Clicks Pharmacy and a variety of other stores and eateries. Jeffrey’s Bay has a Policlinic (day hospital) with an emergency room and several other medical facilities, including a pharmacy. Ideally situated at the start/end of the famous Garden Route, J-Bay is interesting, unpretentious and authentic.  It’s the ideal spot in which to take a few days off, to rest and relax and enjoy Eastern Cape hospitality at its very best.
